Butter Murukku



My Mom's recipe! Tried Baking this time. Healthy, crunchy, and flavorful!!



Ingredients:

Rice Flour - 1 cup

Split Black Lentil Flour (Urad Flour) - 1 cup

Butter softened - 4 tbsp

Warm Water 1/2 - 3/4 cup

Salt - 1 tsp

Black Sesame Seeds - 1 tsp

Butter to Brush - 2 and 1/2 tbsp






Method:

  1. Add both the flours into a heavy bottom pan and roast them for about 5-10 minutes on low to medium flame.

  2. Transfer this to another large bowl. Add butter and lightly mix in till the dough forms a crumbly texture.

  3. Mix in the salt and sesame seeds.

  4. Slowly add water to this till it starts forming a soft dough. You can add a tsp of oil to bind the dough.

  5. Cover this dough with a wet napkin or towel and keep it for about 30 minutes.

  6. Spray a baking tray with oil. Place a butter paper or parchment paper on the tray.

  7. Take the chakli mold and add a roll of dough into the mold.

  8. Using the star tip and chakli mold gently start swirling the dough on the tray. Brush some butter over these.

  9. Preheat the oven for 365 degree Fahrenheit (185 degree Celcius). Bake for 30 minutes. Turn the tray in between at an interval of 15 minutes so that they bake evenly. If the Murukku looks white take the tray out and brush some butter and keep it back in the oven.

  10. After 30 minutes switch off the oven and let the Murukkus stay in the oven for 5 minutes. They should turn golden brown and crispy!

Note: This recipe makes about 20 Murukkus.
